Welcome to my blog

Hmm,

It turns out that I am rather rubbish at blogging. I would love to post here more often but life just keeps getting busier and busier.

Can anyone point me in the direction or give me some advice on how to blog on a regular basis?!

Also, I really must apologise for the horrible iPhone photos in the last post. I will make effort to make my photos a little prettier!!!

I will be popping back later this week to share photos from Tilly’s 5th(!) birthday party….Teacups and Tutus!!

Be prepared, photo catch up!

I’ve been MIA from my little blog for too long, and aside from general life with my family it’s been mainly due to lots and lots of sewing! So here are a few of the projects that have kept me so busy!)

It’s the most wonderful (and busy!) time of the year

I love Christmas. Especially since having kids. And especially now that they’re old enough to get really excited by it.
A few years ago we got an Elf on the Shelf. I discovered them through Pinterest and had to order from the US as they were not available here. Well, since then Barry (our Elf) has become one of our top traditions.
I made a big mistake though. I set the bar way too high. Here are the things he got up to in 2012:

Another quilt and some time in the kitchen

I often say I would have been a great 1950’s housewife. I love to sew and cook, I drive a car from the 50’s (daily!) and adore the fashion from that era.

But here I am, in the present.

I finished my Mum’s quilt…. (insert photo here)…. I haven’t taken any good pics of it yet as the weather has been horrid. So I will when its a bit nicer outside (much better lighting!). I made it from a couple of Marmalade charm packs (By Bonnie and Camille) and Camille’s Dilly Dally pattern (you can find it here).

I have also been in the kitchen a fair bit. I really get the guilty when the kids eat processed foods,, especially since having the Thermomix I can make so many things myself. So we made some ‘Chocolate Jam’ (Nutella), Mixed Berry Jam, a loaf of bread (although we go through it so quickly I’m making a loaf nearly every night!), some delicious sausage rolls and some chocolate chip cookies with milk, dark, white and caramel chocolate chips….Mmmm Delish! as Hamish would say!

I did take some pics of my baking, just to make your mouth water a little bit!!

Checking in

Ok so I’ve been a bit MIA lately. This is going to be a bit of a short post as I’m ready for bed, but I thought I’d show you what I’ve been busy with….
These two as usual

Right place, right time

Mum & Dad have been foster parents for a few years now and over that time they accumulated a vast amount of kids clothing and toys…I mean an absolutely ridiculous amount. They have a large house with generous sized rooms and the clothing alone was taking over 1 and a half rooms!! Crazy!!
So on the weekend we had a garage sale and organised for a local charity to pick up the leftovers on Sunday.
While I was at my parents on Friday sorting, sorting, sorting, my Dad’a mate came to drop off some tables and two vintage sewing machines to sell. Before he had even unloaded I was asking how much he wanted for the two. He umm and ahhed and eventually came up with $100 for both. I was pretty happy with that but then his lovely wife decided that I could have both for $50!!!! An absolute bargain!!!

The garage sale was a bit quite, we forgot it was school holidays and the beginning of the football season but the charity were a bit overwhelmed with the huge amount of donations they picked up today!! And I have these two lovelies for my future craft room! What do you think?

Find me here!

I often find it difficult to muster the energy/time to write a blog post. I feel that I need to make it worthwhile to read and certainly don’t want to be monotonous with day-to-day stuff.

I am often on Instagram and Pinterest and have recently gotten reacquainted with my Flickr account so if you’re on any of these, pop by and say hello!

A long drive, grubby kids and too much chocolate

Good Friday was spent with many other families on the road for half a day to our family’s property in rural Victoria. We were spending the Easter weekend on 17 acres of bush in a mud brick shack that had been built by my dad and grandfather when I was a little girl. My family has been getting away there my entire life and its such a blessing to be able to take our kids there too.
The four hour drive went by minimal grumbling and almost no restlessness from the kids. We don’t have a DVD player or electronic games to keep them entertained so it was logo bingo and eye spy. Prizes for bingo were new books so that helped keep them entertained.
The weekend was spent playing in the dirt, jumping off logs, driving around in paddock bombs, enjoying sparklers and glow sticks.
The Sunday morning egg hunt was just magical. My wonderful husband spent half an hour with Hamish being handed eggs which he would then subtly hide so Hamish could ‘find’ them again. I’m so blessed to be married to such a great guy.
Both kids fell asleep with 15 minutes of the drive home and slept most of the way! It was such a great weekend, the perfect distraction from the fact that I won’t have my sewing machine back from the repairer for another 2-3 weeks (it’s already been a month)!!!

Time flies

Well, I’m back. I haven’t been anywhere exotic or exciting, its just that life has been busy, kids haven’t been sleeping well, I haven’t been sleeping well and I’ve been just too tired to blog.

I have been working on sewing some nappies, embroideries to incorporate into a quilt, and a doll (or two, can’t remember). Unfortunately my sewing machine is out of action at the moment and I won’t have it back for another 2 or 3 weeks. Oh well.

Today was another awesome day out with the family. We went on ‘A day out with Thomas’ (the Tank Engine) up in Emerald. Its a beautiful part of Victoria where they run Puffing Billy an old steam engine. They allow you to sit on the ledge of the carriage and dangle your legs over the side and feel the wind in your face. I can remember doing it as a kid, loved it just as much today. Every now and then they run a special day where the train is pulled by Thomas, they have a Thomas pantomime, colouring in, face painting, jumping castle and animal nursery. Today’s outing was to celebrate Hamish’s upcoming 2nd Birthday, in lieu of a party.

We arrived about 2 hours before our scheduled train ride but it gave us plenty of time to enjoy all the activities without having to wait in lines or deal with a big crowd. Hamish absolutely loved everything, couldn’t stop pointing at the ‘Choo-choo’ and watching the joy on his little face was priceless. Tilly  had just as much fun as Hamish whereas Tash decided that it was a bit too boring for a teenager.

After we had finished with all things Thomas, we headed to Emerald Lake Park for a picnic lunch, play in the playground and checked out the miniature railway (over 2000 meters of track!).

The day was great, the kids were an absolute delight, so well behaved, well mannered and slept nearly the whole way home!

Be prepared for a photo overload….

Welcome back Hermi

My wonderful hubby gave me the choice of a thirtieth birthday party last year or a Thermomix. I immediately jumped up and down (as we were walking the kids to swimming) and said ‘Themomix!’ That was back in October.
Since then, our grocery bill has dropped by an average of $60 a week, we’re all eating real food and hardly any processed stuff, I lost 8 kilos (woohoo!) and I use it absolutely everyday for almost every meal.
But then the blades came loose somehow and I haven’t had it working for nearly two weeks. It is something that does happen over time but usually after a couple of years. So over the last couple if weeks I have been eating crap, put on 1.5-2kilos and just felt like rubbish. Really tells me that I made the right decision back in October and that processed foods aren’t good.
Today a set of shiny new tight replacement blades arrived in the mail and I am now thoroughly enjoying a banana, pineapple, passion fruit and pawpaw smoothie for lunch. Delicious
